It was a bright sunny morning and this reporter was happy that he had decided not to report on the Glasgow Rangers game today but instead travel to the south of Holland to watch the future of Dutch football: the E8 team of DBS. The supporters were, as always, in good spirits and were certainly not disappointed with this thrashing of their local rivals: FC Eindhoven. Delano and Bram kicked off the match and immediately pushed forward, searching, probing, firing on all cylinders. The first shot came from Delano, a long curling ball which the keeper just managed to scramble wide. The pressure increased. Ewan fired a shot that the keeper deflected off the bar. Bram shot but just wide. When it looked as though DBS could not make the breakthrough Delano broke for the by-line and from an unbelievable angle slotted one home. It was 1-0. The crowd went wild. There was some attacking football from FC-Eindhoven but Sam and Dan easily absorbed the pressure in a solid defense. Sweder was not troubled. In the 16th minute we were treated to a tremendous effort by the young Delano which was reminiscent of Maradona in his early days. Picking the ball up in defense Delano moved easily through midfield, beating every Eindhoven player, until only the keeper was left. Picking his spot carefully he beat the keeper but the ball cruelly hit the post and went wide. More pressure followed with Lars pushing forward. He shot and bang GOAL!! 2-0. DBS were now fully in the driving seat. Tala shot and the ball was fumbled wide by the keeper for a corner. Delano passed a short one to Bram and the ball fell to Brat. He turned, shot but the Eindhoven keeper held it. The second half began as the first, short accurate passing, well taken corners and more shots than in Stratumseind. It was only a matter of time and yes there it is. 3-0. Bram van Buul was the man that this time finished as no other. Suddenly from nowhere Eindhoven broke into the DBS half and managed to string a few passes together. The post shuddered and the ball bounced back into play. Sweder was alert thoughout and immediately smothered the ball. This was Eindhoven’s only chance of the game and soon DBS were pushing again. Delano connected with a pass from Ewan and was brought down with a clumsy challenge. There was an appeal for a penalty but the referee decided it was outside the box. The freekick was taken quickly and deflected off the wall to Luuk who striked….just past the post. In the last 5 minutes the ball fell to Ewan and he shot. The keeper couldn’t hold it and Ewan ran in. GOAL. 4-0. Eindhoven looked dejected, depressed, beaten. There was no way back. The game finished with a corner to Lars and the 5th goal denied by the post. It ends at 4-0 to DBS. DBS-E8 have again shown to be a class above the rest. I predict big things for this team and I’m sure we will see some of the players in future international line ups at WKs. Scotland will have to be at their best then to stand a chance.
